Together, anything is possible

Lefteris wakes up early in the morning, looks at the sky from his kitchen window, gives a kiss to his young son and another one to his newborn baby and then prepares his training bag. These days, he's preparing for one of the world's toughest triathlons, IRONMAN^®70.3^®Vouliagmeni, Greece 2023. However, things have not always been like this for him.

"When I was 19 years old, I had a motorbike accident that left me confined to a wheelchair. The doctors' assessment was that I would be in a wheelchair forever, but I wanted to get my life back."

To be able to walk again, he needed a lot of faith and strength, but also the support of his own people. Today, he is completely healthy and can not only run, bike and swim, but also help other people.

"This gives me the strength to continue my efforts."

Médecins Sans Frontières came into Lefteris' life by chance. He visited the Day Care Centre we operate in Athens, learned about our programmes and saw the work of our teams first hand. To contribute with his own forces to our actions was a one-way direction for him.

"On October 22, I will race at IRONMAN^®70.3^®Vouliagmeni, Greece 2023 for Médecins Sans Frontières and for all the people who need our help.

"Because when we are together, anything is possible."

Lefteris' goal is to raise 7,000 Euros for the Médecins Sans Frontières Day Care Centre in Athens, in order to cover the needs of 108 newborn children for 2.5 months.
